RefrigerationThere are several alloys widely used in the refrigeration industry. Whether you are a manufacturer, installer or repairer of refrigeration plant, CuP Alloys Ltd, as a specialist supplier of brazing materials, have the right alloy, in the right form at the best prices to meet your needs.For contractors, copper brazing materials are supplied in bulk quantities 5 kg packs. Silver solder is supplied in 0.5 or 1 kg packs. The refrigeration engineer may benefit from the smaller packs containing 1 kg of copper brazing rod or 5, 10, 25 rods of silver solder. These are available ex stock. ![]() Brazing Copper Ranging in silver content between 0% and 15% silver, there is an alloy to meet the service conditions of the joint, and any manufacturers/users performance specification as well as BS EN 1044. CuP6 and CuP7 are silver free alloys. The low phosphorus content of CuP6 makes it relatively slow running. It will fill large gaps and is ideal for overhead brazing. The higher phosphorus content of CuP7 makes it more free flowing and a more penetrating alloy. Use either on low stressed joints operating down to -10 deg C. Both are available ex stock in rod form 1.5mm to 3.0mm dia and the popular 2.0mm squ. Silver bearing alloys contain between 2% and 15% silver. The main advantages gained from adding silver are joint ductility at ever decreasing temperatures, the lowering of brazing temperature and improving alloy fluidity. By ensuring total penetration of the alloy into the joint, the risk of ''ice blisters'' can be eliminated - a common reason for joint failure. The higher silver content alloys can also better withstand vibration and thermal shock. Ag2P Use it on joints down to - 20° C. Ag5P and Ag6P offer higher resistance to cracking caused by thermal stress. Ag15P is the most durable and possibly easiest alloy to use. It meets the most demanding operational conditions e.g. on joints operating down to - 40° C. It can be used on copper to brass joints using a separate flux. Ag6P behaves in a very similar manner to Ag15P with the obvious cost savings. Silver Solder Generally speaking, there are only two alloys used,40% and 56% silver. All are Cadmium free and will produce joints of similar strength. 456 has the lowest brazing temperature and excellent fluidity. 440 is probably the preferred alloy because of the reduced silver content and its ability to produce sound joints and bridge larger gaps.
