Hallmarking ?The main purpose of hall marking is to guarantee the quality of materials used. This includes the quality of any silver solder used to manufacture the item. Most silver items made in the UK are of "sterling silver" ie 92.5% purity. To maintain the overall quality of the product the amount of solder used must be kept to a minimum and contain a minimum of 67% silver. There are four main grades used, "Hard" "Medium" "Easy" and "Extra Easy" which indicate decreasing melting ranges. When using wires, hold them in a pin vice. It makes them more rigid, easier to hold and keeps the fingers out of the flame.
